These include an award as best student, technical/operational innovations and mastery of the business management and commercial challenges that characterise the forestry, timber and pulp industry in South Africa. His expertise in the specialised technical contracting used in the industry enabled him to act as consultant to the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, as the relevant government department was then named. He was tasked by the Minister to draw up new log supply contracts with all sawmills, in accordance with the new policy as entailed in the new Forest Act. When he left his primary discipline, he became a very successful commercial real estate salesman, for which he received an international award. Always enterprising and recognising a real need, he has developed a range of practical solutions for small business management, such as for stores control and management accounting. Now ready to be a mentor to young professionals, he has always had a passion for training and has developed a range of courses as diverse as ‘practical leather making’ and ‘financial management for non-financial managers’. |
