This lady is a Cost Engineer, and those who have worked with her on her latest projects will confirm that she is one of the best in the business, even if she is still working toward accreditation in one of the latest recognised professions in industry. It is a fascinating career trajectory that brought her to being this accomplished professional, combining financial and contracts administration in a way that is key to the success of any ambitious engineering construction project. Notably, she has not had tertiary education towards a degree or comparable college diploma, but intelligence, a gift of talents and the drive to use them. For some reason she chose to study truss design early on – that iconic subject known to all engineering professionals where maths and physics overlap in applied mathematics. Her aptitude for industry is reflected in her ease with technical terminology. Add to that an affinity for the commercial world, for doing business, her leadership qualities and preference to manage thoughtfully. Her career began in Pennypinchers, a building materials supplier, where she provided comprehensive technical support to building contractor customers and liaised with Architects. She moved on to managing procurement, projects and security for a building construction company, then to being a facilities manager for Fidentia until it was forced to close. The next step was to manage procurement and do projects administration for Target Projects. The followed ten years of doing ‘cost engineering’ on a series of projects in the mining & minerals processing industry.
