Since matriculating from a technical high school in 83 until 2015 this highly experienced maintenance management professional was in the employment of two employers only. He began as an apprentice at Eskom in ’83 and became a Red Seal qualified Fitter and Turner in ’88 while doing power station maintenance. He left to join Anglogold Ashanti in ’90 and worked for that employer on a few mines until 2015. Here he started out as fitter at the rotable equipment store, where he also acted as foreman, before becoming engineering maintenance planning foreman, so laying the foundation for his career. He would be responsible for maintenance planning and later management under a number of increasingly more senior titles. In 2019 he was Maintenance Superintendent on a mine in French Guyana. He is experienced on the maintenance and refurbishment of mobile mining equipment, winders, safety detachment devices, pump stations, refrigeration plants, overhead cranes, and power generation plant and equipment, including turbine blading and white metal bearing manufacture and fitment.

While with Anglogold he became expert on CMMS (computerised maintenance management systems) and accustomed to the ‘work management’ perspective. He was lauded for his work in implementing CMMS in 2000 and again some ten years later for aligning the CMMS-based planned maintenance system to the ‘Business Process Framework’ work management protocols adopted more broadly by Anglogold.

He has never lost his thirst for learning more wherever it would enhance his competence: in addition to a long list of in-house courses, he has done several courses with training colleges on the domains of engineering maintenance management, facilities management and warehouse management. Currently, he is studying Python coding.
