Then, from’79 to ’86 he got his first taste of project management at AE&CI as Instrumentation Development Technician responsible for managing instrumentation projects from conceptual phase, through to commissioning and hand-over. He then spent twelve years as Senior Project Engineer with Sastech where he received his grounding in multidiscipline engineering project management. For the next twenty years he would work as Project Manager / Senior Project Manager for a number of companies, including Grinaker-LTA, Steinmuller, Roymec, FLSmidth and VOPAK, working in accordance to the PMBOK on a range of multidiscipline projects - development, greenfield and brownfield. Reflecting his scope of responsibilities, on large projects his direct reports would include Process Engineer, Project Engineer, Design Engineers, Planner, Procurement Officer, Cost Controller, QC Inspectors, Document Controller, Expediter and Site Manager. The projects were in a number of industries, but the ultimate clients were predominantly Sasol and Eskom. |
