This remarkable sixty-six-year-old man has an electrical engineering degree, a post- graduate diploma in mining and an MBA. His certifications of competence include GCC Elec. Eng. Mines, GCC Mine Manager for coal mines and GCC Mine Manager for metalliferous mines. His working career began as an apprentice electrician on and in South Africa's deep level gold mines. After being a fulltime student for a while, he quickly moved up the ranks in mining to becoming a mine general manager when still in his thirties. Reverting to his engineering competencies, he was senior electrical and instrumentation engineer on a series of projects, before assuming the truly multidiscipline mining and engineering project management role in the mid 90's, responsible for shaft sinking and equipping of incline and vertical shafts. He went on to be responsible for several large projects, including major metallurgical process plants. With the advent of the new millennium, he took on a very different role, with responsibilities for the sales and after-market operations of major mechanical mining equipment suppliers, spending five years each for two different global OEMs holding senior business management roles. Since 2010 he has again taken on senior engineering project management roles on a series of major mining-related projects in Africa and Asia, until Covid-19.
