| Short Profile | Born in England in ’48, this qualified Plastician emigrated to SA in ’82. He is now a Fellow of the Plastics Institute of South Africa and a registered Assessor with the MERSETA, one of only a few Plasticians. He has been Injection Moulding Specialist, Production Manager and lecturer in a technical college. He regularly assists companies in assessing the existing skill levels and training needs of their employees. He is adept at passing on knowledge and skills, both theoretically and by practical hands-on demonstration. He has a sound engineering background and extensive experience in hi-tech injection moulding, such as in the processing of glass filled nylon and other engineering thermo-plastics. He thrives on troubleshooting process problems and in teaching setters how to get the best out of the materials they are working with, also by explaining the processing differences between crystalline and amorphous thermoplastics and by developing an understanding of the MFI of the materials they are working with - and how to save time by checking quickly for moisture content in raw material while the machine is running. He knows very well that it is as much about people as it is about materials and machines. He takes pride in handling disputes and conflict in the workplace in a professional, cool, calm, manner. |
